Orawan Weeks
Orawan Weeks

Kindergarten Assistant

I love to see children flourish in a happy environment and believe that early childhood educators play a very important role, preparing children for the world of learning.

I have been working in early education for over 12 years. I believe play should be fun, exciting, spontaneous, hands-on, stimulating, relaxing, comforting and challenging. All children should be given an opportunity to learn from their decisions, including the opportunity to make their own choices, but always within the confines of a safe environment for the safety and well being of themselves and others.

My role as an educator is to help children reflect on their actions and make appropriate choices and I always strive to influence children by encouraging them to try to empathise with others.

Ellie Chadwick
Ellie Chadwick

Float and Relief

Ellie spent the last 3 years living in Cambodia as a Marketing and Design consultant for World Vision, designing and developing their country website.

She also worked as a kindergarten teacher at an international school where she implemented curriculum, planned activities and supported children and their families. It was through this role that she was inspired to do more work with children. After taking some time out at a yoga retreat centre for 6 months, zenning out, she made her way back to Australian shores.

Since then, she has been studying a Masters of Teaching in Early Childhood and working at Rachel’s Place as a float educator working across all the groups and supporting the teachers.

She understands that children are competent and so encouraging a child’s sense of agency and vision is imperative in supporting their learning and progress through life. Each year, she takes her passion for learning and culture to work remotely with teenagers in Cape York on traditional Indigenous lands engaging in corroboree, dance and fishing.

Sara Gilbert
Sara Gilbert

Environmental Keeper

Sara arrived from France in 2020 and is really happy to have become a part of the family at Rachel’s place. Sara studies human sciences and goes for walks in the park.

Before that, she developed her childcare experience as she taught theatre classes for children in France, where she grew increasingly amazed at how creative and clever children are.

She believes that working around kids gives you important opportunities to grow with them every day (on top of being really fun), and cares about contributing to the creation of a friendly and nurturing environment for them.

At Rachel’s place, she can be spotted picking up toys from the unexpected places they end up in, and having fun rearranging the dollhouse as she cleans. She floats around and is always up for a chat, or for helping out with craft projects and other activities!
