Practice-based, not theoretical

Rachel has spent years building and running a small service with a genuine outdoor program, so professional development sessions come with the unglamorous detail: how to write the risk assessment, how to answer the nervous parent, what to do when it rains for a fortnight.

Session topics

  • Starting a Forest School program — site selection, risk-benefit assessment, ratios, family communication
  • Risky play — supporting real challenge while meeting your obligations
  • Emergent curriculum — planning from observation, documenting so it’s actually read
  • Mixed-age groupings — how they work and what they ask of educators
  • Sustainability in practice — embedding it rather than adding it on
  • Culturally responsive practice — moving past tokenism, all year round
  • Educational leadership — mentoring a team through change

Formats

  • Staff meeting sessions (60–90 minutes)
  • Half-day or full-day workshops for whole teams
  • Ongoing programs across a term, with practice tasks between sessions
  • Site visits with observation and written feedback
  • Online sessions for regional teams

Sessions can be aligned to specific National Quality Standard elements if you’re working towards assessment and rating, and we’ll provide attendance documentation for your records.

Educators and children in bushland during a Forest School session

Who it’s for

Long day care, kindergartens, preschools, family day care educators, OSHC teams and early childhood students. Teams of any size — we’ve worked with services of four educators and of forty.
