Why we run it

Educators spend all day with children and a lot of time reading about them. It seems odd to keep that to ourselves. Our parent education sessions take one real problem — the screaming drop-off, the hitting, the four-year-old who won’t sleep — and work through what’s going on developmentally and what you can try tomorrow.

Sessions are relaxed and small. There is no correct way to parent on offer, and nobody is going to make you feel like you’re getting it wrong.

What we cover

  • Separation and drop-off distress
  • Big feelings, tantrums and co-regulation
  • Hitting, biting and other perfectly normal alarming behaviour
  • Sharing, turn-taking and early friendships
  • Sleep, routines and the witching hour
  • Fussy eating and pressure-free mealtimes
  • Screens, boundaries and family agreements
  • Getting ready for school — what actually helps

How it runs

We hold evening sessions at the centre through the year, usually 6:00–7:30pm, and they’re free for Rachel’s Place families. Dates are shared by email and on Facebook. If enough families ask for a topic, we’ll run it.

Beyond our families

Our Enriching Childhood program takes this work out to other communities — custom information sessions, the Down to Earth Parenting series, professional development for educators, and one-to-one mentoring.
